---O God of our salvation---
hope of all ends of the earth
and farthest seas,
who establishes mountains by His power,
being girded with might,
who stills the roaring of the seas,
the roaring of their waves,
and the tumult of the peoples.
Those dwelling in the uttermost parts stand in awe of Your signs. --Psalm 65:6:b~9
the stream of God is full of water ---Psalm 65:10b
It was a particularly windy New Years! As many are choosing a word for this year, I may even go with `wind`.We set out for the New Year by boat to reach the fishing island where my husband`s family lives. It was so windy that a huge wave even came up and splashed the top deck where we were riding. My clothes got splashed through, though my daughter somehow was out of the wave and remained dry!
The waves were towering high that day, the last day of the `old year` as we set sail for the new.
While at his family house, his brother helped me to make a kite that couldn`t fly into a kite that could fly. We went out for several trials, setting it up on the winds and reeling the kite in, needing to reinforce and strengthen it each time until finally it could withstand the wind, dance in it, and even fly to great heights! (see Above and below posts in this series!)
At night the sound of the wind could be heard making the shutters rattle. My daughter was able to sleep well, but I kept hearing the presence of the wind. On the second night I prayed that the wind would be calm for our boat ride back. My prayer was answered and on the boat ride back it was so calm and from the top deck it was such smooth sailing, like being on a huge cushion of ocean and being sent back on the breath of the Ruach Elohim, the Wind of God!!
They came to Yeshua and woke Him, saying "Master, Master, we`re perishing!" He got up and rebuked the wind and the surging wave of water. Then they stopped, and it became calm.---Luke 8:24
These verses from Psalm 107 struck me as I looked for a verse about wind. The imagery of ships, towering waves, stormy wind, and then God stilling the storm to a whisper and hushing the waves just seem to echo the way of the wind during our trip, and the way God`s loving kindness spoke to me in this New Year holiday.
The waves were hushed. --Psalm 107:29:
They were glad when it became calm
and He led them to their desired haven. ---Psalm 107:30
The verses speak to me metaphorically as well as literally too, as when we see the mighty works of ADONAI and cry out to Him to bring us out of our troubles, He will still the storm to a whisper, and
He will lead us to our desired haven.
So as the Psalm says, let us praise Him for His mercy and exalt Him with praise!! I love it too in these verses how we praise His name to the children of men, and in the congregation of elders, covering those of all ages, and reminds me of the last verse of Psalm 150, let everything that has breath Praise the LORD!!
Blessings to you in 2018!!! Here are the verses from Psalm 107, and some photos of the boat and water and the waves on the way and the calm on the way back!
Some go out to sea in ships,
doing business on the mighty waters.
They saw the works of ADONAI,
and His wonders in the deep.
For He spoke and raised a stormy wind,
lifting up towering waves.
They mounted up to the sky
and plunged down to the depths.
In thier peril their souls melted away.
They reeled and staggered like a drunk,
and all their skill was bewildered.
So they cried out to ADONAI
in their distress, and He brought them out of their troubles.
He stilled the storm to a whisper---
the waves were hushed.
They were glad when it became calm,
and He led them to their desired haven.
Let them praise ADONAI for His mercy,
and His wonders to the children of men.
Let them exalt Him
in the congregation of the people,
and praise Him at the assembly of elders.
---Psalm 107:23~32

ReplyDeleteI LIKE that!
"...It was so windy that a huge wave even came up and splashed the top deck where we were riding. My clothes got splashed through, though my daughter somehow was out of the wave and remained dry!"
That sounds like a sign...
"At night the sound of the wind could be heard making the shutters rattle. My daughter was able to sleep well, but I kept hearing the presence of the wind."
See...? Wow!
Thank you Sandi. Your post with the word for this year, and other blog friends post inspired me to choosing a word, so thank you, looks like I`ll go with wind! Thanks for noticing those connections, those sentences, good to have an accountability reader!! God Bless you!
DeleteGlad your prayer to God got answered and the sea was calm upon return. Everything belongs to God: the wind and the waves. He can lift the waves to a towering height, and He can plunge them down and save souls.
ReplyDeleteThank you Duta. I like reading your powerful expression of the greatness of God and His mighty prowess!!
ReplyDeleteAmen and amen!
